| The son of Patrick Craufurd and nephew and heir of John Crauford (d. 1814); educated at
                        Westminster School, he was a magistrate in Ayshire and an acquaintance of Charles Eastlake
                        and Joseph Severn at Rome. He was secretary to the Ionian Senate (1826) and treasurer of
                        the Ionian Isles (to 1833). | |
