The sixth son of Brownlow Cust, first Baron Brownlow; educated at Eton and Sandhurst, after a distinguished military career and service as Tory MP for Grantham (1818-26) and Lostwithiel (1826-32) he was assistant master of the ceremonies to Queen Victoria. He was an antiquary and prolific writer.
