Of Stoneleigh Abbey, educated at Harrow (where he knew Byron as a schoolboy) and Christ Church, Oxford; he was a prolific minor poet in the Byronic vein. Samuel Parr described him as “a lively companion, an elegant scholar, a zealous patriot, and an amiable and honourable man.”
