The daughter of Robert Milligan (1746-1809); in 1811 she married Thomas Hughan, MP (d. 1811). She and her sisters Mary and Justina were friends of Joanna Baillie. Maria Edgeworth commented, “Excellent house of Mrs. Hughan's, full of flowers and luxuries.”
