John Chalk Claris [“Arthur Brooke”] (1797-1866)
The son of a bookseller, he was educated at the King's School, Canterbury, and was editor
of the Kent Herald (1826-65). He was a member of Leigh Hunt's circle
who published several volumes of poems.
