Irish soldier and adventurer who married the courtesan Harriette Wilson while he was in the Fleet Prison and afterwards lived with her in Paris; he had been a soldier in South America. He is perhaps the author of A Treatise upon Arcanography; or, a New Method of Secret Writing (1836).
